As chairman of the European Casino
Association (ECA), I would very much
like to welcome you to ICE 2018.
This is a crucial time for our industry, with substantial opportunities
coming our way and at the same time, challenges to face. As chair of the
ECA, I am proud to say that in 2017 we welcomed a new member – the
prestigious Monte Carlo Casinos – and were delighted to also welcome
a number of companies as partners to our association. A quick glance
at our website will tell you exactly who I am talking about. For us at the
ECA this is a positive sign of the deepening connections and the industry
positively working together for our common goal of developing a thriving
and sustainable land-based casino industry in Europe.
The challenges we face are diverse and range from combating illegal
gambling and money laundering, to promoting responsible gambling
and ensuring physical and virtual security for our customers, such as
protecting their personal data. At the ECA, we see these as core issues
for our work with the EU and national policy-makers and our national
and international stakeholders. The ECA supports the ICE VOX series
and jointly organises the International Casino Conference (ICC) with our
partner Clarion, which offers the ideal opportunity to discuss and engage
with these crucial topics.
Equally important are the opportunities that we are seeing develop across
the globe. The advent of virtual reality, Artificial Intelligence, skill-based and
social games, as well as a diversification to non-gaming offers are just
some of the current trends. The licensed land-based casino industry is
continuously working to benefit from the potential for growth that these
new trends offer. It is also clear that we need to diversify and present
an attractive offering to our customers. At the same time, we need to
increase gender, and other forms of diversity within our industry and I am
proud to say that this is one of the key topics for the ECA in 2018 where
we know we can count on the support of Clarion.
As in the past, ICE continues to grow and offers great opportunities to
discover the key trends and developments that will define the coming
years for our industry, both land-based and online. On behalf of the
European Casino Association, I would like to wish everyone a successful
ICE 2018 and we look forward to seeing you at the ICC, our own ECA
stand, and the show itself.
